About HEAL Utah's Ninth Annual Fall Party

HEAL Utah is thrilled to welcome writer, naturalist, and explorer Gretel Ehrlich to Salt Lake City as our Ninth Annual Fall Party speaker!
Gretel was born on a horse ranch in California and was educated at Bennington College and UCLA film school. She is the author of 15 books, including The Solace of Open Spaces, A Match to the Heart, This Cold Heaven: Seven Seasons in Greenland, winner of the PEN Henry David Thoreau Award for Nature Writing, and Facing the Wave, which was nominated for a National Book Award and won the PEN USA award for nonfiction. Her writing has been published in Harper’s, The Atlantic, the New York Times Magazine, Time, Life, National Geographic Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, among many others.
At the Fall Party on November 18, she’ll focus on her experiences exploring and documenting arctic ice, and the ecology and cultures that depend on it, over a 20-year period. As part of this project, she received a National Geographic Expeditions Council grant in 2007 to travel from Greenland to Alaska, talking to people about how climate change is impacting their lives. Her latest essay on this topic, “Rotten Ice,” was published in the April 2015 issue of Harper’s.
HEAL will follow up Gretel’s talk with updates on our campaigns to reduce climate emissions in Utah—including our work to curb coal pollution and clean up our air.
There will also be delicious local food, live music, and a cash bar.
